BRIEF DESCRIPTION

A client wanted an extension on the back of their house, comprising of a double storey extension, including a loft conversion into a bedroom. Also at the back of the garden they wanted an outer house to be used for living.

SCOPE OF WORK

The clients were living in the house while the extension work was going on so extra care was taken to ensure the safety of them while working was going on. Also minimal disruption to the family was also paramount. The key points we identified were:

  • Carry out thorough risk assessment
  • Excavate footings 2 metres deep due to overgrown tree roots
  • Construct a block and beam floor due to tree roots
  • Low pitch in loft, had to increase height of the roof for enough space in room

Maintain contact with building regulations officer to ensure work carried out to current building regulations and standards. The 24 week project entailed a lot of work but some key points were:

  • All concrete floor removed in order to fit underfloor heating
  • Install flat roof with correct upstands to support roof lantern
  • Install sun tunnels throughout extension to create more light
  • Create and install sound proof floor in loft
